Basketball Jones and Teambuilding
We worked with Jim Basketball Jones to reinforce our motto of "You Can Always Be a Buddy".
Not all of our Baker Buddy members were able to participate today so we invited a few other 6th and 7th grade students from Baker and students from the Troy Center for Transition. We were inspired, helped with some basketball trick shots, played Simon Says, and had a dance party. Afterwards we reflected on what we learned and took on a teambuilding challenge. We built towers from sticks, and marshmallows to hold a golf ball. Earlier this year we built a tower from pasta and marshmallows. Students revealed that the hardest part of the challenge was to hear, "that won't work". We talked about the importance of practicing our communication and leadership skills in team challenges so we can get better at working together.
Highlights from Basketball Jones included:
Be a Buddy to someone every day.
A mistake is a sign of effort and an opportunity to learn and improve.
If you start kindness, it spreads.
Be kind by showing others they matter.
Do one nice thing every day.
Make a Difference.
School is a safe, happy place for us to have fun while we do our learning.
Put your friend on stage; being a good buddy is about letting me watch you.
Thank YOU to the Troy Foundation for Educational Excellence for supporting this opportunity.
